Avenues of Approach Analysis
A site's own map of itself is rarely the map an adversary is using. GSS analyzes approach routes, standoff, and terrain the way an intruder would read them, then closes what that reading exposes.
An adversary reads terrain differently than a site does
An avenue of approach is any route — vehicle, foot, waterborne, or air — that could realistically carry an adversary toward a controlled or vital area. Some are obvious from a site plan. Others only become apparent when the terrain, concealment, and existing access points are read from the outside looking in, which is exactly how they will be used.
GSS maps every viable avenue against standoff distance, natural and manmade obstacles, and observation exposure, then correlates each one against what the site can currently detect and delay along it. The routes that score well for an adversary and poorly for the site are where the analysis concentrates.
The output feeds directly into pathway and timeline analysis and into vital area scoping — an avenue that hasn't been identified can't be accounted for in either.
